International Teachers Day is observed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the International Labour Organization (ILO), and Education International to commemorate the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO recommendation concerning the status of teachers, their rights and responsibilities, and standards for teachers.
Since 1962, India has commemorated September 5 as Teachers' Day to recognise Dr. Radhakrishnan's extraordinary approach to education and students.
